Sunday In The Park

Sunday was a warm autumn day; the kind of day that draws us outdoors; the kind of day for a drive. I had other chores that needed attention, but when a day like this comes along, I go roaming.  Mom was feeling restless too, so we headed out to Kent State Park.  The leaves are starting to turn color---red, orange, yellow; a hint of change yet to come.  Mom commented,"This is just lovely", and it was. Sometimes the simple things are absolutely the best.

Kick Start Challange

The completed card is on the left. I used orange Basil Basics cardstock for the base and embossed it with a Sizzix emboss folder. I used 4 different cardstock scraps[Paper Studio; Neenah white] and layered them to fit the card base. I used a Fiskars punch to border punch the edgeof the bat print cardstock ,then stamped  words onto Neenah white cardstock using a clear stamp that I purchased several years ago[from Micheals],stamping across the paper, then colored in some of the letters using an orange Jelly Roll glitter pen and used a Clear Sparkle Jelly Roll pen to outline the bats. Next I attached all the paper pieces togather with adhesive; then attached silver wired ribbon, and "goggle eyes" to the bottom strip of cardstock. I stamped the large bat[Tim Holtz cling stamp]onto a piece of Neenah white cardstock using black Big and Bossy emboss ink[Ranger] and heat embossed it. I added red pearls for the eyes and used a fine tip sharpie marker to define the eyes, then attached it to the card with a pop dot.
Today is day 8 and the homework assignment for days 7&8 is to challane ourselves. I decided to take the TIME limit challange to make a card in 10 minutes, but I allowed myself  20 minutes; that's still a BIG challange for me!  I made a halloween card because I had alot of  scraps left over from last year. On the left you can see the inside message.

Patchwork Owl

This is a card I made last year. It is a piecework of cardstock to resemble an autumn wall quilt.

August 29th..vacations over

It is August and the girls are back in school. Summer flew by quickly...like a little hummingbird! Ande is ice skating and back in gymnastics. Callie is in choir and orchestra this year. The summer heat persists with predicted temperatures in the upper ninety's tomorrow. Hurricane Issac is moving up the Mississippi River Valley and MAYBE will bring some rain our way. Prayers go out to all the people who are again suffering loss.
I returned from a wonderful visit with good friend[adopted sis] Margo Miller in Fort Hill, Pa. on  August 24th.  The leaves are beginning to turn color there at High Point Lake....was quite beautiful. Now I am inspired to start making cards for Autumn and Halloween.
Love to all, Ruth

April 02

Beautiful day--even a nice breeze from the south. Easter weekend approaching fast so have to find some healthy treats other than eggs for the HUNT. Andrea does not like eggs. She is walking[running] very well with her walking boot and isn't missing a moment of fun. She had a sleep over at her house on Saturday night[movie,popcorn,s'mores--yum]Surprised they weren't all sick!!
Have to locate my summer clothing today. I need to do same for Mom, even though she tells me the climate doesn't change much in her room.
I would like to go to visit Dads grave site next weekend if anyone interested in riding along. Maybe take some flowers.  I'm not sure if  they have flower holders at the site?
Happy day---  Ruth

Hello,  Maybe this is not the vehicle to use for family except that it can be posted to facebook. Any ideas about some straight forward site to exchange info? Ande got her boot on foot today and went to school.

March 29

Today was a bummer day for Ande due to a fall at school yesterday she sustained a fracture to her R foot[dianosed today] and will have a boot applied tomorrow. Ice skating will be on hold for awhile! On the brighter side I will share a picture Ande made that was selected for the MidwestOne Kids Art Fair and competition  last month. She also recieved notice that a poem she wrote has been selected for Iowa Citys Poetry In Public program. Pretty exciting news!
Calliope also had exciting news to share. She auditioned for her school Spring Talent Show and was chosen to sing her rendition of You Are My Sunshine. Hip-hip-hooray Calli!

Jumping In

I am trying to help family find a better way to link to each other so am establishing a blog site. Maybe it will replace cozi for my immidiate family as I forget to check cozi anyway. I'm hoping to see a few pictures as well as family news.
